tinkerer-in-residence
celebrating makers and creative exploration

about
The Tinkerer-in-Residence program invites regional makers, artisans, and creatives to lead hands-on workshops that celebrate creative exploration and inspire inventive thinking in young learners. Throughout their residency, Tinkerers share their craft and creative process through interactive programming and create an inspiring installation that showcases their unique practice.
The Tinkerer-in-Residence program is made possible with support from General Motors.

meet our 2026 tinkerer
chitra sharma
We're thrilled to introduce Chitra Sharma, our inaugural Tinkerer-in-Residence! A Virginia-based printmaker and arts educator, Chitra studied textile design at Central St Martins and the Winchester School of Art before training as an art educator at The University of London. In 2009, Chitra founded Noctiluna Studio in Vienna, Virginia, where she creates hand-printed, sustainably made products and runs beloved summer camps for young artists. Her work celebrates creativity, sustainability, and the joy of making.

“I love to pass on the joy I get from making and printmaking, and enjoy working with kids, adults, and organizations who want to learn more about finding happiness through the creative arts.”
tinkerer-in-residence workshops
Join Chitra in the Tinkering Corner for hands-on printmaking workshops where little artists experiment with found objects and foam blocks to create prints on fabric.
