On September 13, The Washington Commanders are bringing their annual Hispanic Heritage celebration to the Museum! Our STEAM programming and culture collide, with special activations including
- papel picado and marigold design;
tinkering corner, 9:30 am - 12 pm - exploring Latin rhythms in Baby Jam;
little movers, 10:30 - 11 am - reading of Mirelle Ortega's book, River of Mariposas, by a Washington Legend in STEAM Story Time;
little dreamers, 1:30 - 2 pm - learning traditional dances with the Command Force Dance Team;
visiting exhibit hall, 4:15 - 4:30 pm
Plus, from 9:30 am - 1 pm our friends from the Mexican Cultural Institute will be stopping by near our Placita Mágica exhibit with additional activities including
- lotería: A family activity involving a traditional game of Lotería in which children, with the aid of their parents, can identify colorful Mexican icons like “la sirena”, “el gallo”, “la tambora”, etc.
- paint your frida: A coloring activity in which children can design their own Frida Kahlo figurine.
This event is included in the price of admission.
