pi day
about
Join us for our second annual Pi Day celebration! This special after-hours event honors the infinitely amazing mathematical constant with hands on activations that explore pi in mathematical, scientific, and artistic ways. Plus guests can enjoy pizza pie, included with Pi Day event admission!
Please note: Pi Day is a ticketed event. Admission is $18.95 per person ages 1 and older—free for children under 1 and members. If visiting the Museum earlier in the day, Pi Day tickets will be required in addition to your Museum General Admission for this event.
pi day programs + schedule
In addition to our Museum exhibits remaining open for exploration and play, Pi Day guests can take part in the following hands-on activities:
5:10 pm + 6:00 pm (2 readings)
- STEAM storytime + design challenge, DC Mural Wall
- After a rousing reading of Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi, little builders can tinker and engineer their own carriers for round snacks, inspired by the central challenge of the story
5 - 6:30 pm (ongoing)
- scales and weights, Tinkering Corner
- Little mathematicians can practice their skills of comparing, counting, and estimating as they use balances and scales to explore mass and balance.
- bike gear spirograph, Tinkering Corner
- Gear up for a dazzling activity exploring circles, symmetry, and shapes! Using recycled bike gears, little ones can watch as their artwork spirals across the page in intricate designs and colorful patterns.
- pi art, Data Science Alley
- Children can search through magazines and discover numbers to pair with cut out shapes and various art supplies as they create a masterpiece inspired by pi.
- pi pixel mosaic, Climate Action Heroes
