halloween spooktacular

about

Get ready for a spook-tacular evening at National Children's Museum! Join us for a Halloween-themed after-hours evening packed with special activities and frightful fun for the whole family. Put on your best costume and get ready for:

  • spooky shadow stories (Tinkering Corner): explore how light and objects interact and discover different ways to create shadows. Tinkerers will play, observe, and make connections as they use light and Halloween inspired cut outs and materials to create shadow scenes and tell spooky stories.
  • pumpkin catapults pop-up (DC Mural): explore how force and motion work as you use mini pumpkins and catapults to aim for different targets. Tinkerers will experiment with launching, adjusting their aim, and seeing how far their pumpkins can travel.
  • creepy crawly investigation (Climate Action Heroes): use handheld digital microscopes to investigate real insect specimens at high magnification. Observe spooky insect features, create scientific illustrations of their discoveries, and explore how entomologists use close observation to learn more about the creepy-crawly world around us.
  • monster mash noise parade: dance along to a Monster Mash playlist as we parade through the museum before closing.

Halloween costumes are encouraged! Please note that masks, weapons, and inflatable costumes are not permitted. Guests arriving with a mask or costume weapon will need to leave the item at the admissions desk for the duration of their visit.

Admission to Halloween Spooktacular is free for members and regular Museum cost for general admission.
