the role
National Children’s Museum is a world-class institution that aims to spark children’s imaginations and encourage them to dream. Steps from the National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue, National Children’s Museum celebrates the joy of childhood through science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) exhibits and programs. As a Temporary Graphic Designer, you will help realize this vision for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
Duration for this role is approximately 3 months.
what you’ll do
- Create engaging visual content that reflects our modern, playful brand;
- Design and produce digital and print marketing materials, including social media graphics, email graphics, website graphics, advertisements, signage, event collateral, and promotional materials;
- Prepare final files for print and digital distribution;
- Ensure consistency across all brand touchpoints and maintain brand standards;
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality work;
- Manage workflows and communicate timelines and processes to cross-departmental teams;
- Incorporate feedback and revisions efficiently throughout the creative process;
- Support other institutional and strategic projects as needed and other duties as assigned.
important experiences + traits for this role
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Graphic Design or related field;
- Proven experience as a Graphic Designer, preferably in an agency, nonprofit, or in-house creative environment;
- At least 1-3 years of relevant experience creating graphics in one or more of the following mediums: advertising and marketing design, illustration, publication and typographic design, and packaging design;
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and other relevant design tools.
- Excellent critical thinking skills; ability to balance multiple time-critical projects and pivot quickly;
- Team player who values a collaborative working environment.

hours + location
30 hours/week position. This is a hybrid position located at 1275 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC.
compensation
$22 - 27 per hour, commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for paid sick leave based on DC sick leave laws.
