National Children’s Museum is a world-class institution that aims to spark children’s imaginations and encourage them to dream. Steps from the National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue, National Children’s Museum celebrates the joy of childhood through science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) exhibits and programs. As Education Programs Coordinator, you will play an essential role in supporting this vision by coordinating the logistics and operations that enable the education team to design, develop, and deliver high-quality programming for children and families.

what you’ll do


The Education Programs Coordinator provides critical organizational and administrative support for the Museum's education initiatives. You will coordinate grant logistics, manage multi-partner projects, track timelines and deliverables, and ensure the education team has the systems and support needed to execute programs effectively. The Education Programs Coordinator reports to the Vice President of Exhibits + Education and works to execute the following:

Education Program Portfolio Coordination

  • Coordinate the logistics and administration of the Museum's portfolio of education grants and programs, including scheduling, documentation, reporting timelines, and compliance tracking;
  • Manage multi-partner project coordination, including scheduling meetings, tracking deliverables across organizations, maintaining communication, and ensuring alignment of timelines;

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Serve as administrative liaison with partners, vendors, and collaborators, handling routine communications and coordination;
  • Track grant budgets, expenditures, and financial reporting needs; coordinate with finance department on budget monitoring and invoice processing;
  • Compile data and documentation for grant reports, evaluation activities, and outcome tracking; maintain organized files and institutional knowledge;
  • Maintain project management systems and tools to track deadlines, deliverables, and progress across initiatives;
  • Support the Vice President of Education & Exhibits in collaborating with the advancement department on grant proposal development, including research, drafting support, and coordination;
  • Coordinate education program calendars, schedules, and resource allocation across multiple projects and initiatives;

Education Team Support

  • Manage ordering, inventory, and organization of educational supplies and materials for education programs;
  • Coordinate logistics for meetings, site visits, events, and workshops;
  • Provide administrative support to the education team, including program tracking, and communication coordination;
  • Support cross-departmental coordination between education, exhibits, experience and other museum functions;
  • Be knowledgeable regarding Museum exhibits, programs, and services;
  • Adhere to Museum policies and procedures;
  • Be a positive member of National Children's Museum Team, working to sustain the collaborative, creative culture that will permeate into the guest experience; and
  • Welcome other tasks and responsibilities as needed to ensure the Museum's success.

important experiences + traits for this role


  • Bachelor's degree in education, nonprofit management, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience;
  • At least 2 years of experience in project management and administrative support in informal education settings, nonprofits, or related fields;
  • At least 2 years of experience in education program development and delivery
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills with proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proficiency with project management tools, databases, spreadsheets, Google Workspace and Microsoft Office suite;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments;
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment;
  • Self-directed and proactive with ability to anticipate needs and take initiative;
  • Professional demeanor and ability to represent the Museum effectively with external partners;
  • Experience coordinating multi-partner projects or working with external collaborators;
  • Experience with grant administration, reporting, or compliance preferred;
  • Interest in or passion for children's education, museums, and informal learning;
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship;
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred;
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check; and
  • Passion for the mission and values of National Children’s Museum.

physical demands + working environment


  • Ability to remain standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs.;
  • Ability to interact with children and adults in exhibits, including a three-story climber and slide;
  • Occasional outdoor work;
  • Fast-paced, highly sensory environment with constant interaction with staff and visitors;
  • Punctuality and reliable attendance are required.

  • hours + location

    Full-time position located at the National Children's Museum at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave NW. Standard work hours Monday-Friday with occasional evening or weekend work as needed for special events, meetings, or programs. Limited remote work may be permitted when approved.

  • compensation

    $54,000 - $58,000 per year, commensurate with experience and skill set. This is a benefits-eligible position, including paid time off, health insurance, life/STD/LTD insurance, and 403(b) with match.
