Join us as we celebrate National Children’s Museum’s 50th anniversary and help shape innovation for future generations. We believe all children in our nation’s capital deserve a place where they can experience the power of play. Together, we can inspire children to care about and change the world.
The Museum has a suite of joyful events and programs planned to commemorate this milestone, including the Stories Project, a community archive initiative, Placita Mágica, a special exhibit honoring a beloved experience from a previous Museum location, and the Dreamers Gala, an event honoring our past and toasting to our future. Alongside these initiatives, we are launching a year-long fundraising effort to celebrate 50 years of serving our community and to secure a strong financial foundation for the next 50 years of playful learning.

Gifts of all sizes are an investment in our community, and there are many ways you can contribute that enable the Museum to reach even more children. For recognition of gifts of $1,000 or more, your generous support to the 50th Anniversary campaign will be acknowledged in the Museum for the next five years.

This year marks the Museum’s 50th anniversary since its founding as the Capital Children’s Museum in 1974. The Dreamers Gala will invite our community of sponsors, donors, members, and supporters to gather in celebration of this achievement. During the evening, we will honor the museum’s roots and legacy in the nation’s capital and will raise support to fuel the next 50 years of learning through play.
As a congressionally designated institution, the Museum serves as a platform for national dialogue and global cultural education. However, the Museum does not receive appropriated federal funding and relies on generous supporters who invest in its mission of inspiring children to care about and change the world. The Museum is a 501(c)3 and its EIN is 23-7423491.
