National Children’s Museum is seeking a creative, organized, and responsible Social Media Intern to join our organization this spring. This internship is a fantastic opportunity for a curious learner who daydreams about content creation, has a creative spirit and strategic mindset, and enjoys sharing the story of our brand with the public.

what you’ll do
Reporting to the Communications and Digital Manager, and working with the entire External Affairs Team, the Social Media Intern will support the Museum’s communications work by conceptualizing, capturing, and creating social content; contributing to ongoing content strategy; and analyzing content performance in order to share the Museum’s work and elevate the institution’s brand. Responsibilities of the Social Media Intern include:
Assisting in maintaining the Museum’s content calendar for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, and LinkedIn;
Pitching new ideas for content that will highlight the Museum’s work and unique experience in innovative ways across digital mediums (photo, audio, video);
Capturing and editing photo and video content and designing branded assets that adhere to the institution’s style guide;
Engaging with visitors and aligned brands/institutions across platforms;
Monitoring mentions and tagged photos and requesting use of assets and testimonials when applicable;
Staying up to date with the latest trends across social platforms;
Aggregating and reporting performance data to inform strategy;
Supporting administrative duties as requested; and
Other duties as assigned.
what we believe are important experiences + traits for this role
Demonstrated interest in social media marketing, content creation, branding, communications, museums, and/or non-profit operations;
Previous experience working in marketing contexts;
Experience creating engaging short-form video content for Instagram and/or TikTok;
Experience with basic photo and video editing using the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc.);
Experience creating compelling graphics for social media using Adobe Illustrator or comparable design tool, demonstrating an understanding of good design;
Previous experience working with social media management platforms a plus;
Previous experience using DSLR camera a plus;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Highly organized and able to work without supervision;
Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas;
Professional, responsible, and courteous demeanor;
Proficient computer skills, including G-Suite;
Must be able to pass a criminal background check; and
Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (at least two-doses of an FDA approved vaccination).
End of May/beginning of June through August, with start and end dates flexible. The candidate should be able to commit 20 hours per week in-person (Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm, with the potential for infrequent weekend work at institutional events), based on their existing schedule.
