Washington, DC’s children deserve a world-class museum to spark their imagination and encourage them to dream. When National Children’s Museum reopens steps off the National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue in Fall 2019, it will be an innovative, modern institution that celebrates the joy of childhood through science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) exhibits and programs. As the AV/IT Technician, you will help realize this vision for the Museum’s reopening and subsequently for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
what you’ll do
As a Museum Operations Associate (MOA), reporting to the Director of Operations, you will be a critical member of the team. Museum Operations Associates serve a dual role serving guests at both the admissions desks and as guest services floor staff throughout the exhibit areas. MOAs provide great customer service; maintain exhibit spaces according to our safety, security and cleanliness procedures; support museum educational activities, programs and events; and make the Museum accessible and exciting for all guests.
Provide excellent customer service and a fun experience for all guests;
Provide guests with information regarding museum exhibits, programs, and services;
Promote a welcoming environment by engaging with children and families to maximize learning and enjoyment in the museum;
Manage admissions desk, answer phone, assist with guests’ inquires and make building announcements;
Staff the greeter and climber posts to ensure safety and security for guests;
Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and trainings;
Perform Admission or Exhibit duties as assigned on the daily staff schedule;
Support educators during scheduled programs and events, prep materials and assist with crowd control;
Perform open and close procedures with a focus on restock, cleaning and sanitizing;
Adhere to Museum policies and procedures;
Other duties as required.
what we believe are important experiences + traits for this role
High school diploma or equivalent experience;
Previous experience with young children and their families in recreational settings or experience in retail, sales or customer service preferred;
Previous cash handling experience;
Ability to work with a diverse group of staff and guests;
Ability to communicate and interact with children, adults, and large groups in a fast-paced, high-volume environment;
Fluency in a second language, a plus.
Punctuality and attendance are required for all assigned shifts;
Availability on weekends, evenings, and holidays;
Ability to stand for long periods and to push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs;
Occasional work outdoors;
Part-time hourly, non-exempt position. Work location at 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue NW.
