water warrior mission

april 13

We’re joined by our friend Max, a real-life Water Warrior from the Environmental Protection Agency, in today’s STEAMwork climate action challenge. Do your part to keep our water sources clean and healthy, and keep microplastics out! Reimagine the clean plastic waste in your house as musical instruments.

The Gulf of Mexico Hypoxia Task Force

Learn more about real life Water Warriors at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) like Max Potthoff and the Gulf of Mexico Hypoxia Task Force. We are all responsible for keeping our Earth and its resources healthy and safe…and that means teamwork! The task force is a collaborative partnership between states and federal agencies, co-led by EPA to address nutrient pollution in the Mississippi-Atchafalaya River Basin and hypoxia in the Gulf of Mexico.

Which federal agencies are involved?

U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Which states are involved?

Iowa, Arkansas, Indiana, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Illinois and Kentucky!

What is hypoxia?

Low or depleted oxygen in a water body often leads to dead zones – regions where life cannot be sustained.
