Steps off the National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue, National Children’s Museum celebrates the joy of childhood through science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) exhibits and programs. As Operations Manager, you will help realize this vision for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
what you’ll do
As the Museum’s Operations Manager, reporting to the Director of Operations + Finance, you will help manage the Museum’s finances, human resources, and operations. You will help the Museum run more efficiently by managing purchasing, refining financial processes, supporting daily operations, and overseeing human resources:
Provide timely, complete, and accurate financial reports and data analytics on revenue and expenses to Museum leadership;
Manage monthly accounting, payroll processing, invoicing, and financial tracking;
Manage relationships with auditors and contractors supporting Museum financial operations;
Create and maintain forecasts for all earned revenue, ticketing, gift shop, events, and membership revenue;
Operate and evaluate the Museum operations software and systems, including Salesforce, Shopify, Bill.com, and others;
Partner with Museum leadership to systematize human resources policies and procedures;
Support daily operations during high volume times, including but not limited to working the Museum floor; providing guests with information regarding Museum exhibits, special events, birthday parties, and ticketing information; and opening and closing procedures;
Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and trainings;
Adhere to Museum policies and procedures; and
Welcome other tasks and responsibilities as needed to ensure the Museum’s success.
what we believe are important experiences + traits for this role
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, accounting, or related business field;
3 years of experience in non-profit or small business financial management;
Comprehensive experience and demonstrated success in developing and maintaining financial systems;
Experience working with and/or managing human resources would be helpful;
Exceptional attention to detail, and ability to oversee contracts and insurance policies with legal support;
Ability to translate data, identify key findings, and communicate them clearly and concisely;
An entrepreneurial spirit and ability to balance short + long-term priorities;
Passion for cultivating a team and joyful culture, and providing positive leadership to inspire a team of professionals;
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; and
Passion for the mission of National Children’s Museum.
hours and location
Full-time position located at National Children’s Museum at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave NW. Must be available to work onsite from 9 am to 5 pm at least four days per week, and remotely one day per week. Occasional weekend work required.
$65,000 – $80,000 commensurate with experience and skill set.
