what you’ll do
National Children’s Museum’s Associate Director of Administration, reporting to the Director of Operations + Finance, is a critical partner of the management team. This individual is responsible for a broad range of activities related to Museum operations, including human resources, legal, finance, safety, and operations management.
Human Resources – Coordinate the growth of and support the Museum’s multi-faceted team, through hiring and management best practices; facilitating and implementing appropriate onboarding and training measures; monitoring and planning for emergency preparedness and health and safety protocols;
Legal – In coordination with outside counsel, ensure the Museum is compliant with all relevant laws, and manage Museum contracts, including negotiating, reviewing for legal compliance, implementing, and enforcing contracts in collaboration with appropriate departments, counsel, and leadership;
Finance – Assist with financial management and reporting, including purchasing, bill processing, budgeting, and bookkeeping, in coordination with the contracted accountants and auditors;
Safety – Evaluate and communicate ongoing appropriate safety protocols for staff and guests, and manage onsite security contractors;
Operations Management – Manage and support other operations staff and contractors as needed, in relation to their work in earned revenue, ticketing, and Museum operations; and
Culture – Provide positive leadership within the Operations Team and to all staff to support employees’ ideas and professional growth within National Children’s Museum.
what we believe are important experiences + traits for this role
7+ years supporting human resources, working as an attorney, or in business in a related field;
Bachelor’s degree required, and an MBA or JD would be preferred;
Ability to work effectively on a team and think strategically;
Expert organizational and project management skills, with proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines;
Experience managing multiple, complex initiatives through periods of growth and change;
Must be highly professional with the ability to serve as a public representative of the Museum;
Self-starter able to take charge of a task once assigned, but welcoming of feedback from all staff and open to adaptation for the betterment of the Museum; and
Passion for educating children and the mission of National Children’s Museum.
hours and location
Full-time position located at National Children’s Museum at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave NW. Must be available to work at least 4 days per week in person.
